The special drive against anaemia and tuberculosis will be launched across the state on Wednesday said, on Mission Director of NHM, Tripura- Dr Siddhartha Shiv Jaiswal.

The Drive would begin from March 2 and continue till March 16.

The NHM Director said, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb would launch the programme at Muktadhara auditorium . During the programme, a state-level intensified pulse polio immunization programme would also be launched.

According to an NFHS-5 report, he said, around 65 percent of children and pregnant women are anaemic in Tripura. The special drive would help identify and provide treatment to such people suffering from anaemia, Jaiswal said.

He said the special health drive would be carried out in over 3600 schools and 700 Anganwadi centres across the state. The drive would also cover various tea gardens, slum areas and brick kilns.

With a goal to make Tripura a TB-free state, intensive screening of people would take place during the special drive, he said, adding that the Health and ASHA workers would visit door to door for the screening of people. They would target around 84,000 households covering 4.50 lakh people.

On the other hand, pulse polio would be administered to the children in the age group up to 5 years on February 27. Under this programme, around 3.50 lakh children would be covered. The pulse polio immunization programme would be carried out in 3621 booths of the state, Jaiswal said, adding that the health and ASHA workers would go door to door and administer the pulse polio to the left-out children on February 28 and March 1 next.

The Health and Family Welfare Department (NHM Tripura) with support from the School Education department and Social Welfare and Social Education department would implement the special drive under the banner “Swasth Tripura, Shresth Tripura” in all eight districts of the state.
