The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) state committee organized a massive demonstration on Monday to protest against the prolonged disruptions in the power supply service across the state. The erratic power cuts and loadshedding during the scorching summer have added to the woes of the common people, prompting the Left party workers to demand immediate action.

The protest, held in front of the Bhuturia Power Department office, saw a significant gathering of CPI-M leaders and workers voicing their concerns. Addressing the protesters, senior CPI-M leaders clarified that their agitation was not driven by political interests or aimed at any particular individual. Instead, they expressed their resolve to fight for the rights and interests of the citizens who have been adversely affected by the subpar power service.

“We cannot overlook the sufferings of common people due to frequent power cuts and prolonged loadshedding during these hot summer days,” stated one of the CPI-M leaders at the protest.

The CPI-M leaders took the opportunity to criticize the power department, its minister, and authorities for their failure to provide adequate justification regarding the recent “Ulta Rath Yatra” incident in Kumarghat, which tragically led to the loss of ten lives. They questioned the competence of the state power minister and accused the government of being indifferent to the power-related issues faced by the citizens.

Adding to their grievances, the Left leaders alleged that the BJP-led government was secretly planning to raise electricity charges instead of addressing the underlying issues with the dilapidated power service.

“The government’s focus should be on fixing the power supply system, not burdening the people with increased electricity charges,” a CPI-M leader voiced their concerns.

Condemning the BJP government’s failure in providing essential services to the common people, the CPI-M demanded an immediate and robust restoration of the power supply system.

The demonstration emphasized the urgent need for a reliable and uninterrupted power service, not only in urban areas but also in remote villages, to ensure citizens’ comfort and safety.
