The opposition Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) organized a protest in front of the Police Headquarters, demanding immediate arrangements for the safe return of at least 31 families who have been unable to go back to their homes since the 2023 assembly polls. The party alleges that these families have faced continuous attacks since the election due to their support for the opposition.
Speaking to reporters during the protest, CPI-M Sadar divisional committee secretary Subhasish Ganguly highlighted the plight of the affected families. He stated, “Since the day of the poll, attacks started on the families residing in Vivekananda Abasan and Gurkhabasti area who were supporting the opposition. Their only fault is that they were supporting the opposition and not the ruling BJP. It has been three months that those 31 families are unable to enter their homes.”
According to the CPI-M, the administration has failed to take necessary actions to restore normalcy in the area and allow the displaced families to return to their homes. Ganguly mentioned that the NCC Police Station was informed about the situation, and even the ruling BJP leaders were made aware of the issue. He added that MLA Jiten Choudhury had written a letter addressing the matter, but no concrete steps have been taken to resolve it thus far.
The CPI-M has called upon the state government and concerned authorities to intervene immediately and take necessary measures to facilitate the safe return of the affected families to their homes. The party emphasizes that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the security and well-being of all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliations.
The protest organized by the CPI-M underscores their commitment to defending the rights of individuals and families who have been victimized due to their political choices. By demanding swift action, the party seeks to draw attention to the urgency of the situation and urges the authorities to prioritize the resolution of this issue.
As the demonstration continues, it remains to be seen how the state government and relevant authorities will respond to the demands put forth by the CPI-M. The outcome of this situation will not only affect the affected families but also reflect the government’s commitment to safeguarding democratic principles and ensuring the safety of its citizens, regardless of their political beliefs.
