The Tripura Pradesh Congress observed the 135th birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, at the State Congress Headquarters, Congress Bhavan, on Thursday. Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha, alongside senior party leaders including MLA Sudip Roy Barman, MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, and former TPCC president Pijush Kanti Biswas, led the tribute to Nehru by garlanding his portrait. The event saw participation from leaders of various frontal organizations of the party.
During his address, Ashish Kumar Saha criticized the ruling BJP government, accusing it of attempting to erase key aspects of India’s freedom struggle from history. Saha emphasized the Congress’s commitment to preserving Nehru’s legacy through initiatives like the Jawahar Bal Manch, led by Rahul Gandhi, to engage and train young leaders nationwide. This youth platform, targeting children aged 7 to 18, aims to instill secular and socialist ideals, fostering future leaders committed to nation-building.
Saha further expressed concern about the government’s handling of child protection issues. Highlighting rising incidents of child abuse, inadequate educational resources, and health neglect, he condemned the government’s apparent indifference. He urged officials to prioritize children’s welfare and safety, particularly on this occasion, as Nehru’s birthday, celebrated as Children’s Day, aligns with these values.
Saha concluded by underscoring that Nehru’s legacy not only commemorates his contributions but serves as a reminder to address pressing social concerns, particularly those affecting the youth.
