Congress has filed a formal police complaint against Tripura Minister Tinku Roy over alleged forgery of educational certificates and suppression of criminal records in his election affidavit. The party demands a transparent probe and strict legal action from Kailashahar Police.
The political atmosphere in Tripura intensified on Tuesday after Congress leader Chandrashekhar Sinha filed a formal written complaint against Tripura Minister and Chandipur MLA Tinku Roy, alleging serious discrepancies in his election affidavit. The complaint, lodged at Kailashahar Police Station, accuses the Minister of submitting forged educational certificates and concealing details of a pending criminal case.
According to the complaint, Tinku Roy’s election affidavit states that he passed Class 12 in 2004 from an educational board located in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. However, Congress leaders claim the mentioned board does not exist, raising questions about the authenticity of the certificate and the Minister’s eligibility documentation.
A delegation of senior Congress leaders led by Kailashahar MLA Birajit Sinha personally handed over the complaint to Officer-in-Charge Tapas Malakar. After submitting the complaint, the Congress team addressed the media at the Kailashahar Congress Bhavan, where they strongly criticized the Minister for allegedly misleading voters and authorities.
Speaking at the press conference, senior advocate Nor Singh Das emphasized that the issue concerns not only the Minister’s credibility but also the integrity of the democratic process. He stated that the affidavit submitted by Tinku Roy clearly claims he has “no criminal case” against him. However, the complainant pointed out that a criminal case is reportedly pending at West Agartala Police Station, contradicting the Minister’s own sworn declaration.
Congress leaders argued that submitting false information in an election affidavit constitutes a punishable offense under Indian law. They demanded a transparent and impartial investigation, stating that no political position should shield anyone from legal scrutiny. They further urged the authorities to verify the authenticity of the educational certificate and examine the status of the criminal case mentioned in the complaint.
The party also pressed for immediate action by the Election Commission and police to maintain fairness in the electoral system. “This is not just about one leader; it is about upholding accountability in public office,” Birajit Sinha said.

As of now, neither Tinku Roy nor the ruling party has issued an official response. The allegations are expected to spark further political debate in Tripura in the coming days.
