The opposition Congress has strongly condemned the recent incident in Ranirbazar, where a Kali idol was defaced, sparking communal tensions in Tripura. The party demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible, calling the incident a “well-planned, calculative move” to disrupt the state’s peace.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan, MLA Sudip Roy Barman expressed deep concern over the incident, labeling it an attempt to incite communal violence and disrupt the harmony between communities. “This move was clearly designed to disturb the peace in Tripura,” Roy Barman stated. He further alleged that the violence, which included the looting and torching of several houses, was orchestrated to target minority communities and eliminate evidence of the crimes.
Roy Barman accused certain Hindu organizations of being involved in the violence, claiming that a meeting held by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) prior to the incident had planned the attack on minorities. “The incident was evidently a well-planned, calculated move,” he asserted.
The Congress leader also criticized the state’s police force for their inaction during the violence. He alleged that despite the presence of senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police (SP), no attempts were made to arrest the culprits. “The entire incident occurred in front of the police, yet they did nothing to stop it,” Roy Barman said.
Expressing concern over the silence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Roy Barman highlighted the lack of response from the Chief Minister on social media and elsewhere. “The Chief Minister’s silence on this issue suggests an unwillingness to condemn the actions of these so-called Hindu organizations targeting minorities,” he remarked.
