Coercive Politics Won’t Be Accepted : CM Warns Political Provocateurs in Strong Message
In a clear and categorical message aimed at rising political aggression, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday issued a stern warning against any attempt to destabilize the state through coercive political tactics. Speaking at a public programme in Kumarghat of Unakoti district, Dr. Saha declared that “politics by force will not be accepted under any circumstances,” drawing a sharp line between democratic dissent and disruptive provocation.

Without directly naming any political group, the Chief Minister’s comments come in the wake of recent agitation by the YTF , the Youth Tipra Federation which is also the partner of the ruling BJP demanding action against the District Magistrate of Gomati. The YTF’s controversial move to “symbolically lock” administrative offices, including the DM’s chamber, had sparked widespread concern across bureaucratic and political circles. In this context, Dr. Saha’s warning is being viewed as a decisive message intended to reassert the rule of law and restore administrative confidence.
“We want to go along with everyone. But if anyone doesn’t want it, there is nothing to be done. Politics by force will not be accepted under any circumstances. Simplicity doesn’t mean that we will accept if anyone says or does anything beyond limits,” the Chief Minister said, his tone unusually firm.
He further added, “Everything has a limit. The government will not tolerate anything beyond that. Those who attempt to tarnish the image of the government will face strict action.”
Referring to the growing aggression in protest tactics, Dr. Saha reminded the gathering that democracy thrives in a “fair environment” and not through intimidation. “We all want to live together happily and respect each other. But if someone crosses the line and disrespects that environment, then the response will be as strong as the one given by our Prime Minister to Pakistan,” he remarked, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Political Backdrop and Subtle Messaging
Though not directly naming the YTF, Dr. Saha’s remarks come just days after the group’s controversial demonstrations in Gomati district — an area that has witnessed heightened political tension in recent months. The Tipra Motha-backed youth wing has intensified pressure on the administration, using both political rhetoric and symbolic protests, which many allege border on administrative interference.
The CM’s speech, therefore, is being interpreted as a well-calibrated political counteroffensive, sending a message that governance cannot be held hostage by political theatrics. Dr. Saha, who has so far maintained a calm and diplomatic approach in public life, showed rare sharpness in tone — indicating that the government may not shy away from strict administrative steps going forward.

Development as the Cornerstone
Amid this political assertion, Dr. Saha also highlighted the steady developmental progress under the BJP-led government in Tripura. “Tripura is marching ahead in various fronts, and this is only possible due to the immense public support. No one will be able to oust the BJP government from this state,” he said.
The Chief Minister, along with Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma and MLA Bhagaban Das, laid foundation stones for five new projects and inaugurated ten completed ones across Kumarghat and Pecharthal blocks. These include a Primary Health Center, new school buildings, sub-centers, a Tehsil office, and several multipurpose centers. In total, these infrastructure initiatives represent a combined investment of over Rs 14 crore for the region.
Notably, from January to May 2025 alone, Tripura has seen infrastructure project launches and inaugurations worth Rs 578 crore, indicating the government’s commitment to decentralised and inclusive development.

Job Creation and Connectivity on the Agenda
Dr. Saha further reiterated that the government had already provided around 30,000 jobs, with more to come. He also shared future plans for reviving flight operations from Kailashahar Airport, and exploring the feasibility of utilizing two other idle airports in Khowai and Kamalpur.
Responding to concerns raised by MLA Bhagaban Das about the delay in modernization of Kumarghat Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the Chief Minister assured that he would personally take the matter up with the Union Railway Minister. Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Udaipur stations are among the three being upgraded in Tripura under this ambitious scheme.

Governance with Accountability
In closing his address, Dr. Saha emphasized the government’s dual mandate: to promote development and to protect democratic order. “We want everyone to participate in the development journey. But if some try to disrupt it for political gain, we will act decisively. Politics cannot be allowed to override governance,” he said.
With both development announcements and political messaging packed into one address, Thursday’s programme in Kumarghat marks a pivotal moment in the state’s evolving political landscape — one where the Chief Minister has made it clear that “limits” will be enforced, and “forceful politics” will meet firm resistance.
