Addressing reporters at a blood donation camp on Thursday, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha articulated a nuanced approach to addressing the contentious issue of settlements on protected government land. Dr. Saha acknowledged the complexity of the scenario, where numerous families have established dwellings in Pekucherra forests under Panisagar subdivision, despite clear violations of forest laws.
Approximately 83 families, originating from areas like Dasda, Laljhuri, Subhashnagar, and Barahaldi, have sought refuge in the Pekucherra forest area, constructing temporary shelters to sustain their livelihoods. Despite efforts by Forest Department officials to resolve the issue, a satisfactory solution has remained elusive.
Dr. Saha assured a compassionate resolution, affirming the government’s commitment to finding a solution that honors both the law and the humanitarian concerns of the affected families. He underscored the administration’s dedication to navigating this complex scenario with empathy and diligence.
Meanwhile, at the blood donation camp, Dr. Saha urged the public to strike a balance between donating and supplying blood, highlighting the critical need for community participation in such initiatives. Reflecting on the significance of blood donation, Dr. Saha emphasized its life-saving potential and underscored the necessity of voluntary contributions to mitigate crises.
The camp, held at the premises of the AMC Ward No-39 office in AD Nagar, witnessed the participation of 125 donors, demonstrating a collective commitment to addressing healthcare challenges and fostering community well-being.
