With elections coming closer the political rivals are also getting increasingly violent as they clash at regular intervals.

On Wednesday BJP and CPM activists at Singichhera in Khowai  took on each other with full might and vengeance -leaving about 12 persons severely injured. Three among them had to be shifted to GB Hospital in Agartala as their conditions turned critical.

The area was reeling under high tension though massive police arrangements were made.

Sources said, the Opposition CPM of Khowai sub-division Committee had a prescheduled programme at Singicherra. Accordingly senior CPM leaders like Pabitra Kar, MLA Nirmal Biswas and others led a 300+ strong cadres in a rally which  started from Khowai town and was heading towards Singichhera.

However, the ruling BJP activists were not in a mood to allow the CPM rally and they put up a barricade at Beltali area. The CPM cadres were not in a mood to relent and they retaliated. The tension built up immediately. Panic ran high and traders brought their shutters down, locals locked their gates. Soon the brickbats began and stones flew high and thick even as both the rival party workers brought out lethal and sharp weapons-which were so far hidden- and clashed with all might—that too in presence of police and TSR personnel.

The situation was brought under control when , SDPO Rajib Sutradhar rushed to the spot along with a large contingents of CRPF and TSR persoonel.

After about one hour of free for all fight 12 persons found seriously injured -three of them critically- while Khowai-Kamalpur road remained closed.
