The Central Government has approved Rs 252 crore for Tripura’s post-flood recovery and reconstruction efforts following the devastating August 2024 floods. The first installment of Rs 75.60 crore has been released to rebuild damaged infrastructure, restore livelihoods, and accelerate rehabilitation projects across the affected regions.
In a major relief for flood-affected communities across Tripura, the Central Government has approved financial assistance of Rs 252 crore for recovery and reconstruction efforts following the devastating floods that struck the state in August 2024. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday.
The floods, considered among the most severe natural disasters to hit the state in recent years, caused widespread destruction across several districts. Roads, bridges, public infrastructure, educational institutions, and residential areas suffered extensive damage, while thousands of families faced significant hardships due to the disaster.
Following the floods, the Tripura Government conducted a comprehensive Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) to evaluate the extent of losses and identify priority areas requiring immediate intervention. Based on the assessment, the state submitted a detailed memorandum to the Government of India seeking financial support for rehabilitation, restoration, and reconstruction initiatives.
As part of the approved assistance package, the first installment amounting to Rs 75.60 crore was released on May 26, 2026, from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). The released funds are expected to support ongoing recovery measures and facilitate the restoration of essential public services in affected regions.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for extending support to the people of Tripura during a challenging period. The state government acknowledged the Centre’s assistance as a significant step toward accelerating recovery efforts and rebuilding damaged infrastructure.
According to official sources, the financial package will play a crucial role in restoring normalcy in flood-hit areas. The assistance is expected to help repair critical infrastructure, strengthen development activities, and provide relief to families whose livelihoods were impacted by the disaster.
