The central government has given utmost importance on farmers’ welfare for economic development of the country, for which different plans have been taken. All these plans are being implemented in order to double farmers’ income, said Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Kailash Choudhary in an interaction programme with the farmers of Sepahijala district in Gokulnagar under Bishalgarh sub-division. Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of Tripura Pranajit Singha Roy, Sabhadhipati of Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Supriya Das Dutta, President of Agriculture standing Committee of the Zilla Parishad Biswajit Saha, Chairman of Bishalgarh Panchayat Samiti Chanda Debbarma, Bishalgarh SDM Binoy Bhushan Das and the officials of Agriculture and Horticulture departments were present in the programme.
Choudhary and Tripura Agriculture minister Pranajit Singh Roy flagged off the transport 1.5 MT queen pineapple and scented lemon consignment to Hyderabad. The pineapples would be sent to Hyderabad from Bishalghar.
While speaking at the flagging off ceremony organized at Bishalghar the Union minister said, “a sense of self-reliance is imbued among the people of the state. Women, as well as men, are taking part in productive activities across the state which indicates that the state’s growth is on the right track.”
He maintained that the previously neglected farmers were now encouraged to be self-reliant by the positive governance in the state. The Union minister was all praise for the pineapple framers of the state in particular.
He said, “Once discouraged, the entrepreneurs have, of late, found a new way of earning. Inspired by the positive and supportive environment created by the government, people are now showing interest in entrepreneurship. The growing demand for Tripura products has ensured fair prices to the farmers”. He then added : “I am delighted to visit the pineapple orchards and interact with pineapple growers. I am glad to know that with the help of Tripura government schemes, farmers are able to get the appropriate value of pineapples and they are happy to sell their products in the global market.”
Minister further noted that besides the conventional yields, the production of varied fruits and crops would play a crucial role in increasing the income of farmers
“Value addition of products of Tripura was previously missing and the present government was making all efforts to promote that”, Choudhary said.
The minister said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given utmost importance to the development of the Northeastern region. There is a huge scope of agricultural development in the Northeastern states. The soil and the environment are great for the farmers development. After the interaction programme, the Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare then visited paddy procurement centre near Gokulnagar food godown where paddy is procured at Minimum Support Price. Then, he commenced the export of Gandharaj lemons and Queen Pineapples grown by the farmers of Sepahijala district to Hyderabad.
Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of Tripura Pranajit Singha Roy said, paddy is being procured from the farmers at MSP every year in the state. Through this, the farmers of the state are benefitting.
