BSF ADG Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal visited Manipur to assess the security situation and urged troops to act with dedication. His review included meetings with key officials and frontline troops, focusing on restoring law and order amid ongoing ethnic unrest in the northeastern state.

In a significant development concerning Manipur’s ongoing security challenges, the Border Security Force’s (BSF) Additional Director General (ADG) of the Eastern Command, Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, concluded a comprehensive three-day visit to the violence-affected northeastern state. During his visit, the senior officer stressed the need for unwavering commitment from the BSF personnel in maintaining law and order amid the ongoing unrest.

Aggarwal, an experienced Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, directed troops to execute their duties with utmost dedication and professionalism. “The ADG interacted with officers and troops deployed across key locations and emphasized the critical role of discipline and alertness in restoring and preserving peace,” a BSF spokesperson said on Sunday.

The visit, which spanned several strategic and sensitive districts including Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Churachandpur, was marked by ground-level reviews, interactions with field commanders, and detailed assessments of the operational preparedness of the force.

In Churachandpur district, one of the worst-affected regions during recent ethnic hostilities, Aggarwal conducted a Sainik Sammelan (troop gathering) to directly engage with the officers and jawans. He encouraged the personnel to maintain high morale despite challenging conditions and reiterated the BSF’s unwavering commitment to national integrity and public safety.

ADG Aggarwal was accompanied by Inspector General Ravi Kant of the BSF’s Mizoram and Cachar Frontier, along with other senior officials throughout the tour. The joint team evaluated the deployment strategies, communication logistics, and coordination protocols between different paramilitary units stationed in the state.

Highlighting the importance of inter-agency coordination, Aggarwal held high-level meetings with senior state and security officials. On Friday, he met with the Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal. During the meeting, the ADG briefed the Governor on the current security dynamics, the preparedness of the BSF in border areas, and ongoing peace-building initiatives. The discussions also revolved around increasing synergy between BSF and state enforcement agencies to effectively address emerging threats.

A Raj Bhavan official said, “Aggarwal briefed the Governor on the overall border security scenario and reiterated BSF’s commitment to supporting peace and restoring normalcy in the region. Coordination with state and central agencies was also discussed in detail.”

Aggarwal also met with Manipur Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and the state’s Director General of Police (DGP), Rajiv Singh. These meetings served to align strategies, share intelligence, and strengthen the unified response to the persisting ethnic tensions and insurgent threats in the region.

Manipur has been grappling with ethnic hostilities since May 2023, resulting in significant casualties, displacement, and ongoing communal unrest. In response, the central government has deployed a multi-agency security umbrella comprising the Army, Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and the state police, alongside the BSF.

BSF’s presence, especially in sensitive border areas and communally volatile districts, has been vital in preventing further escalation and facilitating humanitarian outreach. ADG Aggarwal’s visit is being seen as a morale booster and a reaffirmation of the central leadership’s resolve to stabilize the region.

In conclusion, the ADG’s visit not only assessed the ground realities but also reinforced the message that peacekeeping efforts in Manipur are being continuously monitored and backed at the highest levels of command. With improved coordination between central forces and state agencies, the authorities remain hopeful of gradually restoring peace and public trust in the violence-hit state.
