The core committee of the Pradesh BJP convened a crucial meeting at the state party office to address the pressing matters related to the imminent bye-elections in the constituencies of Boxonagar and Dhanpur. This meeting, held on Monday, was convened to finalize the contenders.
Reliable party sources reveal that a shortlist of four candidates was meticulously considered, with the anticipation that two of them would be chosen by the central leadership in New Delhi. Notable party spokesperson, Dr. Sambit Patra, was present at the meeting, lending gravitas to the decision-making process. Following thoughtful deliberations, Bindu Debnath and Biswajit Bhowmick emerged as the candidates for the Dhanpur seat, while Jashimuddin and Tufajjol Hossain were earmarked for Boxonagar. Of these, Bindu and Tofajjol Hossain have garnered recognition as the leading contenders in their respective constituencies.
Dr Sambit Patra in charge of North East for the party attended the meeting and flew back to Delhi with the short listed names.
The Chief Minister’s optimism echoed through his social media post, emphasizing the belief that the electorate of Dhanpur and Boxonagar would cast their votes in favor of development initiatives. The Chief Minister’s conviction in the party’s victory was underscored by his tweet, stating, “I am confident that the people of the two constituencies will vote based on the Seva, Sushasan & Garib Kalyan of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji & development works of our govt ensuring the BJP’s victory.”
In addition to Dr. Sambit Patra, the meeting was atytende by including BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik, and Former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, among other core committee members. Beyond the vital deliberations concerning candidates, the assembled leaders collectively devised a comprehensive strategy to ensure the party’s success in the forthcoming bye-elections.
As per the schedule prescribed by the Election Commission of India, the scrutiny of nominations is slated for August 18, while the final withdrawal of candidature can be made until August 21. The Boxonagar constituency, hosting a total of 43,087 voters comprising 22,166 males and 20,921 females, is poised for a significant electoral showdown. Moreover, the Dhanpur seat’s vacancy emerged following the resignation of Pratima Bhowmik, while the Boxonagar seat’s vacancy arose due to the lamentable demise of the incumbent CPM MLA, Samsul Haque.
