The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after the Supreme Court upheld the Calcutta High Court’s decision to cancel the appointment of over 25,000 teachers in state-run schools.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of large-scale corruption in the recruitment of teachers. He alleged that the process was riddled with irregularities and bribe-taking, which forced aggrieved candidates to seek legal intervention.
“The scam is so massive that it left people with no choice but to approach the courts. The judiciary has now spoken, and justice has been delivered,” Dr. Patra stated. He claimed that the recruitment scam involved hefty bribes in exchange for teaching positions, and that such corruption has severely impacted the education system in the state.
Dr. Patra further alleged that the Mamata Banerjee-led administration has repeatedly failed to uphold transparency and fairness in public appointments. The BJP leader demanded accountability from the Chief Minister and urged a thorough investigation to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The cancellation of the appointments has sent shockwaves across West Bengal, with thousands of affected candidates now left uncertain about their future.
