Ending all speculations BJP has fielded former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb as the party’s Rajya Sabha candidate. The election to the lone seat that fell vacant following resignation of incumbent Rajya Sabha member Dr Manik Saha will t ake place on September 22 next.

Deb’s fight will be against opposition Left front candidate former minister Bhanu Lal Saha who also fought against Dr Saha in the previous RS polls.
On Friday two important decisions were taken in regards to Deb. First he was made the party’s in-charge of Haryana Pradesh and then at 11.48 pm at night he was made the Rajya Sabha candidate.
Deb who was in Delhi would be returning Agartala on Saturday evening.
Sources said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held former Chief Minister had a meeting with him. There were also meetings with other party functionaries like party president JP Nadda and others.
The nomination to Rajya Sabha came at a time when there were speculations about Deb’s political position since his resignation from the Chief Minister’s post.
Apart from making Deb as in charge of Hariyana also made MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma as Prabhari for Tripura.
Dr. Sharma has replaced Vinod Sonkar as the state BJP observer. Sonkar was given charge of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
According to party sources, it is an important move as the state would go to assembly polls in the next few months.
Dr. Manik Saha congratulated Dr. Sharma for being appointed as the state presidents of Tripura.
