The much ambitious Agartala centre of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) is all set to start functioning from next October 31 next, said ICA Sushanta Chowdhury.
The course would begin from November 7 and distribution of certificates (convocation) would take place on February 15, next year. Notification for the admission will take place on September 20.
He also said, the state government would not take There will be no course fee or donation at the initial stage; the students only need to deposit a small-amount registration charge.
The SRFT centre in Tripura was Chowdhury’s dream project and he held several meetings with the institute authorities as well as central ministers for the project.
Only recently he held another round of meeting with the SRFTI officials. Chowdhury and secretary of ICA had a meeting with the SRFTI officials at the institute’s campus in Kolkata on September 5 last. The meeting decided the schedule for the inauguration of centre.
“It was decided in the meeting that a notification for admission in the institute’s Agartala centre would be published on September 20 next after final approval from the SRFTI”, he said.
At the beginning the SRFTI centre here – in Nazrul Kalakshetra campus- would start with four short-term courses– film appreciation course (4 weeks), screen acting (8 weeks, twice in a year), production management for cinema and television (4 weeks) and anchoring and news reading ( the details yet to be finalized). For the next one month , till October 20 candidates would be allowed to submit their applications. The scrutiny of applications and admission process would take place from October 21 to October 30 next, he said..
The state government already sanctioned Rs. 5.75 crore for the proposed centre. The PWD has been assigned to complete the works like internal electrification and renovation. The AMC has been assigned for beautification, he said, adding that the state government was developing the infrastructure as suggested by the SRFTI officials during their visit to Agartala.
