An Assam man has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly murdering his live-in partner and dumping her body in a garbage truck. The victim, a single mother of two, was reportedly strangled during a fight. The chilling crime adds to recent disturbing cases of domestic violence across India.
A 33-year-old man from Assam has been arrested by the Bengaluru Police on charges of murdering his live-in partner and dumping her body into a garbage truck. The arrested accused, identified as Shamshuddin, allegedly strangled the victim, Asha, during a heated argument and later disposed of her body in a horrifying attempt to erase evidence.
The case was registered under the jurisdiction of the Channammanakere Achukattu police station in South Bengaluru. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South, Lokesh Jagalasar, the police discovered the body of an unidentified woman stuffed inside a gunny bag in a garbage truck on Sunday. Following the shocking discovery, authorities launched an immediate investigation.
“After initial analysis, the woman was identified as a 40-year-old named Asha, who worked as housekeeping staff at a private company,” said DCP Lokesh. “She had been living with the accused, a native of Assam, for over a year and a half. They posed as husband and wife in the locality.”
Further investigations revealed that Asha, a single mother of two, had developed a relationship with Shamshuddin after meeting him at her workplace. Although they were not legally married, they cohabited in the Hulimavu police station area and were known to neighbors as a couple.
The tragic chain of events unfolded when Shamshuddin reportedly returned home in an inebriated condition. A quarrel ensued between the two, which escalated into a physical altercation. In the heat of the moment, Shamshuddin allegedly strangled Asha to death.
After committing the crime, he reportedly transported her body on a two-wheeler, concealed it in a gunny bag, and dumped it into a parked garbage truck, hoping it would go unnoticed.
“CCTV footage and technical evidence played a key role in solving the case swiftly. Based on footage gathered from around the area, we were able to identify and trace the suspect,” said a senior police officer.
Police sources added that Shamshuddin was already married and has children residing in Assam. His double life and growing tensions with Asha were known to a few close acquaintances, but no one anticipated such a gruesome outcome.
This horrific case comes close on the heels of several other shocking crimes involving intimate partners. Earlier this month, another chilling murder was reported in Meghalaya, where a man stabbed his married lover 17 times. In September 2024, Bengaluru was rocked by the gruesome killing of Mahalaxmi, a single woman whose body was found chopped into over 50 pieces and hidden in a refrigerator. Her lover, Mukthiranjan Roy, later died by suicide in Odisha.
These back-to-back crimes highlight the increasing number of fatal domestic disputes and toxic relationships turning violent, sparking concern over women’s safety and the importance of mental health awareness and domestic violence prevention.
As of now, the accused Shamshuddin is being interrogated and remains in police custody. Authorities have assured that further legal proceedings will follow based on the findings of the investigation.
