The 78th Bankul Mahamuni Fair was inaugurated at the Mahamuni Buddha Temple premises in Sabroom, with Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha leading the ceremony. The five-day-long event, a significant cultural and religious gathering, began with prayers and rituals, drawing devotees and visitors from across the state.
During the inauguration, the Chief Minister unveiled 28 Buddha statues and emphasized the importance of Lord Buddha’s teachings in promoting peace and harmony. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to completing the International Buddhist University in Sabroom, which will provide religious education, cultural discussions, chanting, meditation, and sports facilities.
Highlighting Bankul’s potential as a tourist hotspot, CM Saha announced plans to develop the Bankul Mahamuni Temple premises to attract both domestic and international tourists. He urged attendees to celebrate the fair peacefully while enjoying its spiritual and cultural offerings.
Several dignitaries graced the occasion, including MLA Mylafru Mog, International Buddhist University Chancellor Dr. Dhammapia, South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Datta, MDC Kongjong Mog, and Rupaichhari BAS Chairman Rakhi Tripura. The South Tripura DM Smitha Mol and SDM of Sabroom Shibojyoti Datta were also present, with the SDM delivering the welcome address.
The fair featured an exhibition with stalls from 10 government departments, while cultural performances were organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, adding vibrancy to the event.
