Bangladesh has cleared the way for the broadcast of the Indian Premier League (IPL), with Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan stating that there is no restriction on airing the tournament in the country.
Speaking to a private media outlet, Swapan said the government does not want to politicise sports and would consider any proposal to telecast the IPL on a commercial basis. According to the media reports, the announcement effectively ends uncertainty after an earlier ban imposed by the interim government, which followed controversy surrounding the exclusion of Mustafizur Rahman from Kolkata Knight Riders.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque emphasised maintaining friendly ties with India, stressing that politics should not affect sports.
