In Bangladesh, the International Crimes Tribunal on Wednesday removed lawyer Aminul Gani Titu from his role as the state-appointed defence counsel for former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in a contempt of court case, citing a conflict of interest and concerns over judicial ethics. As per the media reports, the Supreme Court lawyer Amir Hossain has been appointed as the new state defence counsel. Earlier, on Thursday (19 June), the Tribunal had appointed Aminul Gani Titu to represent Sheikh Hasina and a former Awami League leader from Gaibandha in the case. However, the appointment sparked criticism on social media after it emerged that lawyer Titu had previously posted a status on social media demanding the execution of Sheikh Hasina. The post, reportedly made on 5 August last year, led to questions over his suitability to serve as defence counsel in the case.
