Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Ashis Kumar Saha has lodged a formal complaint against four BJP leaders, including a union minister, for their alleged defamatory statements against Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. The complaint, filed at the West Agartala police station, comes amid a protest staged by Congress workers in Agartala.

The four individuals named in the complaint are Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, former BJP MLA Tarvinder Singh, and Uttar Pradesh Minister Raghuraj Singh. According to Saha, these leaders made derogatory remarks about Rahul Gandhi, severely damaging his reputation and that of the Indian National Congress (INC).

Saha highlighted in the complaint that on September 16, 2024, Sanjay Gaikwad publicly stated he would offer Rs. 11 lakh to anyone who could “cut the tongue” of Rahul Gandhi. The TPCC president expressed deep concern over the potential incitement to violence resulting from such remarks.

Additionally, the complaint mentioned Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu calling Rahul Gandhi an “extremist” and accusing him of not being an Indian citizen, labeling him as the “No.1 enemy of India.” Similar inflammatory statements were reportedly made by Tarvinder Singh, a former BJP MLA from Delhi, and Raghuraj Singh, a minister from Uttar Pradesh, further aggravating the situation.

Hurt by these statements, the TPCC president filed the complaint, seeking a thorough investigation and strict action against the four leaders.

In tandem with the formal complaint, Congress workers in Agartala took to the streets on Wednesday to protest the remarks made by the BJP leaders and their allies. Demonstrators raised slogans condemning the threats against Rahul Gandhi and burned effigies of the BJP leaders, demanding accountability. The protest culminated in the lodging of the police complaint by Ashis Kumar Saha at the West Agartala police station.

The Congress workers called for immediate action against the four leaders and urged the police to investigate the matter swiftly to prevent further escalation of tension.
