The CPI(M) Unakoti District Committee submitted a 17-point charter of demands to District Magistrate Dilip Kumar Chakma on Wednesday, urging immediate attention to the needs of flood-affected families.
Led by district secretary Krishnendu Choudhury, the delegation included leaders Swapan Kumar Baishnav, Bishwarup Goswami, and Kantilal Deb. Among their demands were six months of free rations for flood victims, Rs 50 lakh compensation, and government jobs for families of those who lost their lives. The party also called for the equitable distribution of aid to affected farmers and immediate repairs to damaged roads across the district.
Additionally, the leaders demanded double rations for underdeveloped areas, pending wage payments for tea garden workers, and Rs 15,000 crore in central assistance for flood recovery efforts. They emphasized the need for swift completion of bridges over the Manu River and measures to prevent further riverbank erosion.
