Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced in Rajya Sabha that terrorists behind UPA-era attacks were eliminated in Operation Sindoor. Shah accused the Congress of shielding Pakistan-backed narratives and prioritising appeasement politics over national security. He vowed to make Kashmir terror-free and highlighted swift retaliation under Modi-led government.

In a fierce address to the Rajya Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday declared the success of Operation Sindoor, asserting that terrorists responsible for major attacks during the Congress-led UPA era have been eliminated under the Narendra Modi government’s decisive counter-terror doctrine.

Shah didn’t mince words as he accused the Congress party of weak handling of terrorism, alleging that senior leaders like former Home Minister P. Chidambaram pandered to Pakistan-backed narratives for vote-bank politics.

“Under Operation Sindoor, key terrorists like Hafiz Muhammad, Mudassar, Mohamad Hamza, Mohammed Hazar, Abdul Malik, and several others have either been killed or incapacitated. Many have been injured so badly that they will never pose a threat again,” Shah told the Upper House, triggering fierce reactions across the benches.

He sharply criticised Chidambaram for seeking proof of the terrorists’ Pakistani identity. “Who is he trying to save—Pakistan or Lashkar?” Shah asked, rhetorically.

The Home Minister linked Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev as examples of the Modi government’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism. “Congress kept sending dossiers. But under PM Modi’s leadership, we send bullets, not files. Fear alone ensures peace with terrorists,” Shah thundered.

Recalling the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, where 26 tourists were brutally gunned down by Pakistani terrorists, Shah revealed that the three main perpetrators—Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders Suleimani, Afghan, and Jibran—were killed in Operation Mahadev conducted earlier this week.

“Forensic evidence and eyewitness accounts confirmed their involvement. These attacks were orchestrated by Lashkar’s proxy, The Resistance Front (TRF),” he said.

Shah emotionally recounted his visit to Pahalgam on the day of the massacre. “I met a woman widowed just six days after marriage. Entire families were devastated. These moments are seared into my memory,” he said, adding that the government immediately launched operations to eliminate the perpetrators and uphold national resolve.

He sharply rebuked opposition leaders for questioning the timing of the operation. “Some are suggesting political motivations behind Operation Mahadev. This exposes their mindset—where political gain is prioritised over national security,” Shah remarked.

The Home Minister further condemned Congress for its controversial “saffron terror” narrative. “Congress labelled Hindus as terrorists for political mileage. But let me state this unequivocally—Hindus can never be terrorists,” he said. He also lambasted the party for expressing sympathy toward terrorists during the Batla House encounter while failing to support the martyrdom of brave officers like Inspector Mohan Sharma.

Addressing Congress’ criticism of the government’s military stand-offs, Shah accused the grand old party of “clandestine dealings with China” during sensitive periods like the Doklam standoff.

“While our soldiers were standing tall in the Himalayas, Congress leaders were busy dining with Chinese diplomats. What kind of politics is this?” he asked.

Responding to Chidambaram’s skepticism about the finality of Operation Sindoor, Shah drew comparisons to past wars. “Was 1965 decisive? Was 1971 final? Then why did terrorism grow under your rule?” he asked.

Reiterating the government’s firm stance, Shah said that terrorism in Kashmir will be eliminated, and Pakistan will face consequences every time it dares to fund or abet terror activities on Indian soil.

“The Modi government has instilled fear in the hearts of cross-border terrorists. They now know that any attack will be avenged swiftly, directly, and decisively,” Shah concluded.

As political tempers flared, Shah’s remarks underlined a clear contrast between the Modi government’s muscular security doctrine and what he described as the Congress party’s appeasement and indecisiveness.
