Government officials, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, have initiated efforts to evaluate the extent of damage caused by heavy rains and flooding in Tripura and other northeastern states.
Assurances of assistance have been extended to the affected regions, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing solidarity and promising support to the affected populace.
In a comprehensive review, Amit Shah assessed the rainfall and flood situation in Tripura and other northeastern states, extending solidarity to those impacted. Briefing Prime Minister Modi on the dire circumstances in Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Mizoram, Shah affirmed the government’s commitment to providing necessary assistance.
Expressing deep concern for the natural disasters triggered by Cyclone Remal, Shah emphasized the gravity of the situation. “Our thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones, and prayers with those injured for a speedy recovery,” he stated, highlighting the government’s vigilant monitoring and provision of aid to affected areas.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging the widespread devastation in Tripura and neighboring states. “Unfortunately, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and West Bengal have witnessed natural disasters in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal,” said Modi, expressing solidarity with the affected populace.
Modi further assured affected states of unwavering support from the central government, emphasizing continuous monitoring and on-ground assistance efforts. The southwest monsoon, accelerated by Cyclone Remal’s impact, has exacerbated the situation, prompting urgent intervention to mitigate further damage.
In Assam alone, six casualties have been reported due to floods, rains, and storms since May 28, underscoring the severity of the crisis. With the Indian Meteorological Department confirming the early onset of the southwest monsoon in Assam and other northeastern regions, authorities are intensifying relief efforts to alleviate the suffering of affected communities.
