ADB delegation visits Tripura to review TUTDP progress, assessing urban infrastructure, tourism development, water supply, and road projects across 12 towns, reinforcing investment, sustainable growth, and strategic partnership under Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha’s leadership.

A high-level delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has arrived in Tripura to assess the ongoing progress of the ambitious Tripura Urban and Tourism Development Project (TUTDP), marking a significant step in the state’s infrastructure and tourism growth roadmap.

The visit comes under the broader development vision of Chief Minister Manik Saha, whose government has been actively pursuing urban transformation initiatives with financial and technical assistance from ADB. The Urban Development Department has undertaken multiple projects aimed at strengthening civic infrastructure and enhancing tourism potential across the state.

The ADB delegation is led by Chief Urban Development Specialist Tamu Ueda and includes key members Sarin Chung and Bhavesh Kumar. The team also comprises experts in social and environmental safeguards, along with officials from ADB’s headquarters in Manila and its India Resident Mission, reflecting a comprehensive review approach.

During their visit, the delegation is conducting extensive inspections across 12 towns in Tripura, focusing on both urban infrastructure and tourism-related projects. Key areas under review include drinking water supply systems, road connectivity, and modern sewerage networks. These initiatives are being implemented by the Tripura Urban Planning and Development Authority and the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Limited.

On Tuesday, the delegation held a crucial meeting at the State Secretariat with Urban Development Secretary and Project Director Milind Ramteke and TUDA Commissioner-cum-Additional Project Director Mihir Kanti Gope. The discussions centered on evaluating the current progress of ongoing works and strategizing future development plans for the remaining eight cities under the project.

The delegation also reviewed the development of major tourist destinations that have been upgraded or are currently under development with ADB support. These projects are expected to boost Tripura’s tourism sector by improving accessibility, infrastructure, and visitor experience, thereby attracting both domestic and international tourists.

Officials emphasized that the visit underscores ADB’s continued commitment to supporting Tripura’s development goals. According to a press release issued by TUDA, the collaboration is aimed at ensuring sustainable urban growth, improved quality of life for residents, and enhanced economic opportunities through tourism.

With regular monitoring by international agencies like ADB, the state government aims to ensure timely implementation, transparency, and adherence to global standards.

As the review progresses, stakeholders remain optimistic that the project will significantly transform Tripura’s urban landscape and position it as a growing tourism hub in Northeast India.
