Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Bannerjee who reached here on Sunday alleged that BJP government once again resorted to ‘cheap politics’ by denying permission for the party’s prescheduled programme.
The allegation was raised soon after the Tripura Police denied permission for a scheduled programme of TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee with a non-political tribal group at Hathai Kotor Eco Park, Barmura in Teliamura sub-division on Sunday.
As alleged by the TMC, the interaction programme of Banerjee with the AITC workers was also denied permission at the last minute by Tripura Police.
A letter issued by the office of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Teliamura stated that Banerjee’s programme at Baramura Eco Park was cancelled.
“It is to inform you that, on 02.01.2022 LAM PHIYOKNAI TRUST have already taken permission from the SDFO, Teliamura to organise a programme in front of HATHAI KOTOR Cafeteria (Baram Ecological Park) where Shri Mevar Kumar Jamatia will attend in the same programme and even there is no prior permission from the appropriate authority to organize a programme at Barmura Ecological Park by Shri Abhishek Banerjee, Hon’ble MP of Lok Sabha on 02.01.2022,” the letter reads.
An official release of AITC quoted Banerjee as saying, “AITC won’t be conceding any space for BJP in Tripura. Within 3 months, we have become the principal opposition in the state after securing over 23% vote share in the urban body’s civic polls last month.”
Meanwhile, Banerjee, who arrived in the state on Sunday, paid a visit to Chaturdash Devata temple at Khayerpur.
Speaking to the media, he said, “We have a one-year time to prepare for state polls. We will make sure that Biplab Deb’s Goonda Model of governance and BJP’s tricks of breaking party offices and attacking opponents don’t work anymore.”
Accompanied by TMC state convenor Subal Bhowmik, Banerjee then had lunch at a party Worker’s House in Joynagar Bazar of Teliamura.
