In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a substantial boost in the run-up to the upcoming by-election in Tripura’s Boxanagar Assembly Constituency. A staggering 8,000 voters, led by former Congress Minister Billal Miah, formally joined the BJP during a grand event held in Kulubari, Sepahijala district. The ceremony witnessed the presence of Tripura’s Chief Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha.
During the event, Chief Minister Dr. Saha expressed his confidence that both major opposition parties in Tripura, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPIM and the Indian National Congress, are on the brink of political insignificance. He likened their future visibility to that of needing a microscope, asserting that Congress, in particular, is gradually fading away across the nation.
Dr. Saha remarked, “What we are witnessing today is a trailer; the main event is still pending. A day will arrive when individuals will abandon Congress to join the BJP.” He attributed the previous rule of the CPIM in Tripura to the Congress party and noted the adverse consequences of their governance on the state and its people. He further emphasized that under BJP governance, political violence has ceased, and law and order have greatly improved.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to equal treatment of all religions and its dedication to “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” (Development for All), Dr. Saha noted the significant improvements in Boxanagar Assembly Constituency. Through initiatives like the PM Awas Yojana-Gramin, thousands of houses were sanctioned, and a substantial portion is connected to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). He praised the transparent working of the government, following the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dr. Saha recalled the decline in CPIM’s seats from 16 in 2018 to 11 in 2023, expressing his confidence that this trend will continue. He assured the people that BJP is dedicated to unity and the welfare of its citizens, in contrast to the divisive nature of other parties. He attributed this unity to the leadership of stalwarts like PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President JP Nadda.
The Chief Minister concluded his address by affirming his belief in Tafajjal Hossain’s impending victory in the upcoming by-election on September 8. He called on all supporters to maintain faith in the BJP’s mission and expressed confidence in a joyous celebration of victory for both seats.
Prominent BJP leaders including Rajib Bhattacharya, Dr. Mahesh Sarma, Bikas Debbarma, Sushanta Chowdhury, Tinku Roy, Kalyani Roy, Papia Datta, Dipak Majumder, and others were present at the event, demonstrating the party’s unified front in the electoral campaign.
As the by-election date approaches, political observers are keenly watching the evolving dynamics in Tripura, where the BJP appears to be consolidating its position.
