
In the pursuit of enhancing rural connectivity and infrastructure, Tripura has invested a total of Rs 455.47 crore over the last three years towards the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The information was shared by Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, in response to a question posed by MP Biplab Kumar Deb in the Rajya Sabha.
A breakdown of the expenditure reveals that during the financial year 2020-21, Rs 99.13 crore was allocated for PMGSY in the state. The central government contributed Rs 69.57 crore to this allocation. Subsequently, in the financial year 2021-22, the expenditure rose to Rs 203.44 crore, with the central government releasing Rs 73.88 crore. For the financial year 2022-23, the central government disbursed Rs 251.63 crore, of which Rs 152.90 crore was spent on the PMGSY scheme.
Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti also highlighted that construction work under the 1st and 2nd phases of the PMGSY project is expected to conclude by March 2024. The subsequent 3rd phase aims for completion by March 2025.
In response to queries regarding the current status of sanctioned projects, the Union MoS provided an in-depth breakdown of sanctioned projects categorized by year and district.
As of August 2023, the PMGSY-I has sanctioned a total of 1,361 road works, out of which 1,319 have been completed, encompassing multiple collaborations and agencies across eight districts of the state.
For PMGSY-2, a total of 42 road works were sanctioned, with 34 having reached completion by August 2023 using the same parameters.
Under the ongoing PMGSY-III, a total of 32 road works have been sanctioned, with a projected completion deadline set for March 2025.
The investments made and the progress achieved underscore Tripura’s commitment to improving rural connectivity and infrastructure, thereby enhancing the lives and opportunities of its residents.
