
In a recent press conference held at the Secretariat, the Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department, Puneet Agarwal, unveiled significant achievements and ongoing projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of tea workers and improving administrative infrastructure in the state.
Under the Chief Minister’s Tea Workers Welfare Scheme, the revenue department has successfully allocated free land to 1,910 tea worker families for housing, providing them with a long-awaited opportunity for secure and stable living conditions.
Highlighting the department’s progress, the Chief Secretary emphasized the completion of several administrative buildings during the financial year 2022-23. Notable among them are the North Tripura District Magistrate Office Building, Sonamura Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s Office, and the ongoing renovation of 112 Tehsil Kacharis. These infrastructure initiatives have been undertaken with a total budget of Rs 50 crore 42 lakhs.
Significantly, the state has also undertaken the construction of 42 new Tehsil Kachari offices, out of which 20 offices have already been completed, providing efficient administrative support to the local communities.
Looking ahead to the financial year 2023-24, the Principal Secretary shared details about the Special Assistance to State Scheme. Five major construction projects are set to commence, including the construction of office complexes for the South Tripura District Magistrate, Sarum Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s Office, Kumarghat Sub-Division Magistrate’s Office, Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s Office, and the construction of 38 Tehsil Kachari office buildings. These ambitious endeavors will involve a budget of Rs 78 crore 40 lakhs.
Furthermore, the state government has allocated Rs 35 crores and 14 lakhs for three projects under the Golden Jubilee Tripura Nirman Yojana, aimed at further bolstering developmental initiatives.
In addition to infrastructure development, the Revenue Department is actively engaged in providing financial assistance through the Tripura Disaster Management Authority. Notably, the families affected by the tragic ‘Ulta Rath Yatra’ accident in Kumarghat have received financial aid. The families of the deceased were provided with Rs 4 lakh, while those seriously injured received Rs 2 lakh 50 thousand and Rs 74 thousand was granted to individuals with varying degrees of injuries.
Shifting the focus to the resettlement process of Bru refugees, the Principal Secretary informed the press that 6,302 Bru families have been identified for resettlement across 11 locations in the state. Over 5,600 houses have been constructed for the families, with the remaining in progress. Each family will receive house building assistance in three installments of Rs 1.5 lakh.
In terms of documentation and essential services, 3,961 Bru families have received a one-time fixed deposit of Rs 4 lakh. Furthermore, 5,286 families have been issued Record of Rights (ROR), 5,759 families have obtained ration cards, and Aadhaar cards have been distributed to 23,017 individuals. Additionally, ST certificates have been issued to 14,019 persons, PRTC to 13,070 individuals, REGA Job Cards to 4,632 families, and Voter ID cards to 14,314 individuals.
The press conference witnessed the presence of Additional Secretary Pradeep Acharya and State Coordinator of Disaster Management Sarat Das, further highlighting the government’s commitment to transparency and effective communication.
These initiatives undertaken by the Revenue Department showcase the state government’s dedication to improving the lives of tea workers, enhancing administrative facilities, and supporting vulnerable communities, thereby fostering overall socio-economic development in the region.
