Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurates Tripura State Games 2026, urging students and youth to balance sports and academics. Dr. Manik Saha, the Chief Minister of Tripura, has called upon students and young people to actively engage in sports alongside their academic pursuits, emphasizing that the state government is placing the highest priority on developing modern sports infrastructure to enhance the overall sporting ecosystem.
The Chief Minister made these remarks on Sunday while inaugurating the Tripura State Games 2026 at the Dasarath Deb State Sports Complex in Badharghat. The event, organized by the Tripura Olympic Association, marks a significant milestone in the state’s sporting journey, as the State Games have been introduced for the first time in Tripura.
Addressing athletes, officials, and dignitaries, Dr. Saha described sports as indispensable for maintaining both physical fitness and mental well-being. He stressed that building a healthy and disciplined generation requires equal focus on education and athletics.
“The state government has undertaken several new initiatives to strengthen the sports ecosystem in Tripura. Among these, the development of advanced and modern sports infrastructure has been given top priority. Many state-of-the-art facilities have already been developed, opening new opportunities for nurturing sporting talent,” he said.
Highlighting the national perspective, the Chief Minister referred to the efforts of Narendra Modi, noting that the Prime Minister has consistently emphasized integrating sports into the lives of students and youth, who represent one of the country’s most valuable human resources.
He pointed to initiatives such as Khelo India, which aim to build a stronger and healthier India by promoting competitive sports at the grassroots level. Inspired by these national efforts, the Tripura government has launched multiple programs designed to foster a vibrant sports culture within the state.
Dr. Saha expressed confidence that the Tripura State Games would serve as a transformative platform for identifying and developing young talent from every corner of the state. “This event provides a brilliant stage for young athletes to showcase their skills. It will strengthen the spirit of healthy competition and inspire a culture of fitness, discipline, and excellence,” he said.
He further added that sports play a critical role in shaping character, boosting confidence, and promoting teamwork. According to him, a healthy youth population is essential for building ideal human resources and ensuring the long-term development of the state.
The Chief Minister also underscored the importance of transparent and efficient functioning of sports bodies. He stated that the state government is working to ensure that the Olympic Association in Tripura functions effectively and in alignment with national standards, making large-scale events like the State Games possible.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of several prominent figures, including State Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Bishwajit Shil, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and BJP MLA Dipak Majumdar, renowned gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Sports Department Secretary P.K. Chakraborty, Tripura Olympic Association President Ratan Saha, and General Secretary Sujit Roy.
With enthusiastic participation from athletes across disciplines, the Tripura State Games 2026 is expected to energize the sporting landscape of the state.
