Assam: Seven college students die in accident in Guwahati

In a tragic incident, seven students of Assam Engineering College, Guwahati died in a major road mishap at the Jalukbari area in the wee hours of May 28.

According to police, the students were driving a Scorpio car when it hit a Bolero pickup van head-on. Police reached the spot after getting the information about the accident and tried to retrieve the bodies of all by cutting the mangled remains of the vehicle.

Reports suggested that the students were highly intoxicated and were driving the car beyond the permissible limit. All the deceased are said to be 3rd year-semester students of Assam Engineering College in Jalukbari, Guwahati.

Additionally, 3 others received grievous injuries in the accident and were rushed to the Apollo Hospital for immediate treatment.

Another report from another source said , the victims have been identified as Arindam Bhallal from Guwahati, Niyor Deka from Golaghat district, Kaushik Mohan from Charaideo district, Upangshu Sarmah from Nagaon district, Rajkiran Bhuyan from Majuli district, Emon Gayan from Dibrugarh, and Kaushik Baruah from Mangaldoi.

Additionally, three individuals who were in the pick-up van that was struck by the Scorpio vehicle were also admitted to GMCH in critical condition. The bodies of the deceased students have been sent for autopsy, while fellow students from Assam Engineering College gathered at GMCH to mourn the tragic loss.

Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to share his sorrow. He expressed deep anguish over the loss of young lives and extended his heartfelt sympathies to the parents and families of the victims. The Chief Minister also assured that all necessary medical assistance is being provided to the injured individuals at GMCH.
