In a major crackdown on the rampant smuggling of Burmese cattle from Myanmar to Bangladesh via Tripura, the Panisagar 105 battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) achieved a significant victory.

Assisted by alert local villagers, the BSF successfully intercepted 18 vehicles laden with cattle in the East Machli Shibbari area of the North district on Saturday night.

Upon detecting the suspicious movement, the vigilant BSF jawans initiated a pursuit, resulting in the apprehension of 18 vehicles containing a total of 86 cattle. However, around 15 vehicles managed to evade capture, eluding the authorities.

Acting swiftly, the BSF jawans promptly handed over the confiscated cattle, along with the vehicles and 30 drivers and assistant drivers, to the Manu Police Station. The police station authorities will now undertake the necessary investigations and initiate legal actions against the culprits involved in this illegal trade.

Cattle smuggling along the Myanmar-Bangladesh border has been a persistent concern, undermining both national security and the region’s economy. The collaborative efforts of the BSF and local communities represent a significant step towards curbing this illicit activity, protecting livelihoods, and ensuring the integrity of cross-border trade.
