The Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and Development of North East Region (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy today said the development and progress of the North Eastern states is among the top proprieties of the Narendra Modi government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes that the nation’s development is not possible till we ensure the development of the North East region; and that is why he has put special emphasis on the development of the North Eastern states.
Addressing the Governing Council Meeting of the Central Association of Private Security Industry (CAPSI), Reddy said the Narendra Modi government is expanding railway network in the entire North Eastern region, and by 2024 all the state capitals of the region will be connected by rail network.
Earlier only Assam was connected by railway network but now a majority of the areas of the NE states are being connected by railway network. There has been a major expansion of railway network in Tripura also.
The Narendra Modi government is investing heavily on the development of infrastructure in the North Eastern region. An allocation of Rs 21,000 crore has been done. New medical colleges are being opened in the region while IIT has also started. The North Eastern region hold strategic importance for the nation since it borders China and Myanmar, he added.T
he current central government’s view is that India cannot move forward without the development of the North East region. For this purpose, in the last nine years five lakh crores rupees have been spent for the development of the North-Eastern States.. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always said that the country as a whole cannot progress without the North East. The prime minister’s aim is to make this region India’s growth engine in the coming days. The current government of the country is working keeping this in front. He said that a lot of work has been done for the development of this region in the last nine years. Prior to 2014, the number of airports in North Eastern states was 9. Now this number has increased to 17. Due to the construction of many airports, business, industry and tourism are naturally developing in this region. During this period more than 2 lakh crore rupees were spent on construction and renovation of National Highways alone.
The Minister also said that the communication system will be developed within the next 500 days in all the villages that have not yet established cell phone connections. Efforts are being made to develop world class infrastructure in North Eastern states. Expressing the opinion that this region can be considered as the window of South Asia for India, the Union Tourism Minister said that all the necessary work will be done for the development of the North Eastern region. This region is very important from a geographical point of view. As Myanmar is on one side, Bangladesh and China are on the other side. So everyone should work together to develop this region. He said, the biggest challenge here is employment. The central government is working constantly to address this challenge. He said that the sons and daughters of North Eastern states are working in very important places in different parts of the country. Their role is truly commendable. In Delhi, the capital of the country, the boys and girls of North Eastern region do not face any problem. Various measures have been taken for that. Emphasizing on increasing the efficiency and facilities of private security guards, the Minister of DoNER advised the concerned to bring more boys and girls from the North Eastern states in this field.
Speaking at the programme, the Minister of Industries and Commerce of the state Santana Chakma said that after the BJP-IPFT government came to power in the state in 2018, special attention has been given to the development of Tripura. The small state of Tripura is moving forward along with the entire country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She said, we all have the same goal. That is to make India self-reliant in all aspects. Chairman of CAPSI Kumar Bikram Singh gave the welcome address on the occasion.
