Tripura Puppet Theatre’s production Rani Lakshmibai has been selected for the 26th Bharat Rang Mahotsav, organised by the National School of Drama. The consecutive selection marks national recognition for Tripura’s traditional puppetry and growing theatrical talent.
Tripura Puppet Theatre has achieved another significant milestone in the national cultural arena, as its acclaimed puppet production Rani Lakshmibai has been selected for the 26th Bharat Rang Mahotsav, the prestigious annual theatre festival organised by the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi.
The selection brings recognition to Tripura’s rich theatrical traditions and highlights the growing presence of the state’s cultural groups on prominent national platforms. Notably, Tripura Puppet Theatre is the only theatre troupe from Tripura selected for this edition of the internationally recognised festival.
Bharat Rang Mahotsav is regarded as Asia’s largest theatre festival and provides an important platform for theatre groups, artists and performers to present diverse theatrical productions to audiences from across the country and beyond.
The latest selection is particularly significant for Tripura Puppet Theatre, as this marks the second consecutive year that the group has earned a place in the prestigious festival.
In the previous edition, the group’s production of Bisarjan, based on the renowned literary work of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, was selected for the 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav. The production was staged in New Delhi last year and received an encouraging response from audiences and theatre enthusiasts.
Following the recognition of Bisarjan, the selection of Rani Lakshmibai for the 26th edition further strengthens the group’s reputation and demonstrates its continued contribution to the promotion of puppetry and theatrical art.
The upcoming presentation of Rani Lakshmibai will offer another opportunity for the theatre group to showcase its artistic abilities, traditional puppetry techniques and storytelling skills before a wider national audience.
The consecutive selections are also being viewed as an important achievement for Tripura’s cultural community, providing greater visibility to the state’s traditional performing arts and encouraging local artists to pursue creative excellence.
