Asian markets end mixed; European indices trade higher

Major Asian stock markets ended on a mixed note today. South Korea’s Kospi plunged 5.3 per cent, Taiwan’s Taiex fell 3.2 per cent, and Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 1.8 per cent. In contrast, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng surged almost 3.7 per cent, Singapore’s Strait Times index added over half a per cent and China’s Shanghai Composite rose 0.1 per cent. 
 
In European markets, Germany’s DAX as well as London’s FTSE 100 rose 0.7 per cent, when reports last came in. Meanwhile, the Bank of England raised Bank Rate by 0.25 percentage points to 4 per cent.
