The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced plans to expand its organisational network in Tripura, focusing on youth engagement, unemployment, education, healthcare, democratic rights and public accountability. National Coordinator Sheikh Sahiluddin Shah outlined the organisation’s future strategy in Agartala.
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced plans to expand its organisational presence across Tripura, aiming to establish a structured grassroots network with a particular focus on youth participation, public accountability, democratic rights and region-specific developmental issues.
The announcement was made by CJP National Coordinator Sheikh Sahiluddin Shah during a press conference at the Agartala Press Club. Volunteers and organisational representatives from Tripura and Manipur attended the programme, which was organised as part of the organisation’s wider outreach initiative to connect with supporters and strengthen its presence across different states.
Addressing the media, Shah said Tripura had emerged as an important area of focus for the organisation. According to him, thousands of young people from the state had already expressed interest in joining through the volunteer registration drive. He said the organisation now intended to bring these volunteers under a formal structure to strengthen its activities at the grassroots level.
Shah explained that local volunteers and youth organisers had already started working towards building the organisation’s presence in different parts of Tripura. Their efforts would now be channelled into a more organised network to identify public concerns and raise issues affecting local communities.
A volunteer interaction programme was also organised alongside the press conference, where participants discussed organisational expansion, youth involvement and possible strategies for addressing public issues through collective participation.
Explaining CJP’s organisational identity, Shah described it as an independent public platform rather than a conventional political party. He said the organisation aimed to monitor governance, promote transparency and encourage accountability among elected representatives and governments.
He maintained that CJP intended to question governance and ensure that governments functioned in accordance with constitutional principles, irrespective of which political party was in power.
Highlighting major challenges facing Tripura, Shah identified unemployment, problems in the education and healthcare sectors, electricity-related concerns and other developmental shortcomings as important issues requiring attention. He said the organisation planned to work closely with students and young people to understand these challenges and develop campaigns around matters affecting their daily lives.
Responding to questions about alleged political affiliations, Shah rejected suggestions that CJP functioned as an extension of any political party. He acknowledged that the organisation had supported certain movements on common public-interest issues, particularly those involving electoral reforms and democratic rights. However, he stressed that CJP intended to maintain its independent identity and organisational position.
He further clarified that the organisation’s immediate objective was not to change governments but to strengthen transparency, accountability and democratic participation. According to Shah, protecting citizens’ democratic rights and encouraging people to participate actively in public affairs would remain central to its activities.
As part of its proposed expansion strategy, CJP is planning to establish a regional research and documentation team in Tripura. The proposed team will study various issues affecting the state, including youth-related concerns, social development, border-related challenges and other regional matters.
Shah said the research team would help the organisation understand local problems more systematically and prepare issue-based campaigns supported by documentation and public engagement.
He added that strengthening the organisational structure would remain the immediate priority before announcing a detailed programme of activities across the state. Expressing confidence in the response from local volunteers, he said the organisation hoped to develop a strong platform through which young people could participate in public discussions and raise concerns affecting their communities.

With its proposed expansion, the Cockroach Janata Party is seeking to establish a youth-oriented public platform in Tripura, focusing on governance, development, democratic reforms and accountability. Its future activities will depend on how effectively it can translate its growing volunteer base into an organised grassroots network across the state.
