Tripura CM Manik Saha strongly condemned an attack on three BSF personnel near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Sepahijala district. Calling the incident unacceptable, he directed authorities to take swift and strict legal action against those responsible.

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Tuesday strongly condemned the attack on three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Sepahijala district, describing the incident as unacceptable and a matter of grave concern. He directed the concerned authorities to take swift and stringent action against those responsible in accordance with the law.

Three BSF personnel were reportedly injured after a group of people allegedly attacked them following a confrontation over a suspected smuggling-related incident near the Ashabari Border Outpost (BOP) under the 49th Battalion.

Taking to social media platform X, Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his strong displeasure over the assault and extended his support to the injured security personnel.

“I strongly condemn the brutal assault on our brave BSF personnel at Ashabari by a group of miscreants. Such acts of violence against our security forces are completely unacceptable and deserve unequivocal condemnation,” the Chief Minister stated.

Emphasising the seriousness of the incident, Saha said any attack on security personnel must be dealt with firmly. He also instructed the concerned authorities to ensure that those involved in the assault face appropriate legal consequences.

“Any attack on our security personnel is a matter of grave concern and must be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. Concerned authorities directed to take swift and stringent action against those responsible and ensure that justice is delivered. Our security personnel deserve the utmost respect and protection,” he added.

According to preliminary media reports, the incident took place on Monday when a verbal altercation allegedly broke out between local residents and BSF personnel deployed at Ashabari BOP under the 49th Battalion.

Reports suggest that the confrontation began after BSF personnel allegedly detained a person identified as Hefzur Rahman on suspicion of involvement in smuggling activities during vegetation clearance operations in the Ashabari border area.

Following the detention, a group of local residents reportedly blocked the Boxanagar-Rahimpur road and confronted the security personnel. The situation allegedly escalated when members of the mob attacked a BSF vehicle and personnel using sticks and bamboo.

Company Commander Rohit and other BSF personnel were among those reportedly injured in the incident. However, reports regarding the exact number and identities of the injured personnel have not been independently confirmed.

The injured security personnel were subsequently taken to Boxanagar Primary Health Centre (PHC) for medical treatment.

A video purportedly showing the incident has also circulated on social media. The footage reportedly shows a group of people approaching and attacking BSF personnel with sticks and bamboo during the confrontation.

Meanwhile, security arrangements have been strengthened in the affected area to prevent further escalation and maintain law and order. The incident has raised concerns regarding the safety of border security personnel performing their duties along the sensitive Indo-Bangladesh international boundary.

The BSF plays an important role in preventing cross-border smuggling, illegal activities and other security threats along the international border. The assault has therefore drawn strong condemnation from the Chief Minister, who stressed that security personnel must be treated with respect and provided adequate protection while carrying out their responsibilities.

Further details regarding the incident, the condition of the injured personnel and possible legal action against those involved are awaited.
