Tripura CM Manik Saha inaugurated Blocks A and F of the Agartala Lighthouse Project, making 278 affordable flats ready for beneficiaries. The Rs. 162.50 crore housing initiative aims to provide modern, sustainable homes to economically weaker and low-income families.
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha inaugurated Blocks A and F of the Agartala Lighthouse Project, bringing affordable housing opportunities closer to economically weaker sections and low-income families. A total of 278 flats have been completed and made ready for beneficiaries under the two blocks of the ambitious housing initiative.
The inauguration ceremony was attended virtually by Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar. The project, located near the Akhaura border along Bangladesh, is being implemented with an investment of Rs. 162.50 crore and aims to provide modern, permanent and affordable housing to eligible families.
Addressing the programme, Chief Minister Manik Saha said the Agartala Lighthouse Project was among the flagship housing initiatives envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He described the project as an important step towards fulfilling the dream of economically weaker families to own permanent and secure homes.
According to the Chief Minister, the project envisages the construction of 1,000 flats across seven residential blocks in Agartala. Each flat has an area of approximately 30 square metres, equivalent to around 320 square feet, and has been designed to provide comfortable living facilities for beneficiary families.
Saha said Agartala was among six cities selected across the country for the Lighthouse Project, which focuses on delivering high-quality, sustainable and environment-friendly housing through modern construction technology.

He highlighted that the project uses modern light-gauge steel frame technology, which supports faster, efficient and cost-effective construction while maintaining quality standards. The initiative is intended to make modern residential facilities accessible to ordinary families at affordable prices.
The Chief Minister acknowledged that certain administrative and financial complications had emerged during the implementation of the project. However, with the cooperation of Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and other stakeholders, the issues were successfully resolved, enabling the inauguration of two of the seven blocks.
Saha expressed gratitude to the Union Minister on behalf of the people of Tripura for his support in addressing the difficulties associated with the project. He also expressed confidence that the remaining blocks would be completed and handed over to beneficiaries within the stipulated timeframe.
Emphasising the importance of permanent housing, the Chief Minister said a pucca house was much more than simply a shelter, as it provides families with security, dignity, stability and confidence for the future.
He added that the government remained committed to ensuring better living conditions for economically weaker sections and low-income households through affordable housing initiatives and improved urban infrastructure.

Saha further said that the Lighthouse Project would strengthen access to modern residential facilities and create opportunities for families who might otherwise find it difficult to secure quality housing in urban areas.
The Chief Minister also urged beneficiary families to take collective responsibility for maintaining the residential complex. He stressed that the development of a planned residential area required not only modern buildings and infrastructure but also cooperation among residents.
Calling upon the beneficiaries to maintain cleanliness and a healthy living environment, Saha encouraged them to work together to keep the residential premises attractive, organised and suitable for future generations.
