Tripura Police seized 200 rounds of live ammunition during a vehicle checking operation at Maharani in Gomati district on October 29. One person was arrested, while investigators are examining the ammunition’s source, destination and possible links to illegal transportation.

Tripura Police seized 200 rounds of live ammunition during a vehicle checking operation at Maharani under Radhakishorepur police station in Gomati district on October 29. One person was arrested in connection with the recovery, while police have launched an investigation to establish the source and intended destination of the ammunition.

According to police sources, the seizure took place during a routine naka checking operation conducted by police personnel near Maharani Police Outpost. During the operation, officers intercepted a passenger-carrying Max vehicle travelling from Agartala towards Raishyabari in Dhalai district.

Following the interception, police personnel searched the vehicle and recovered a bag containing 200 rounds of live cartridges. The recovery prompted the police to take immediate action and detain a person suspected of being involved in transporting the ammunition.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Udaipur Debanjali Roy confirmed the seizure and arrest. Speaking to the Enewstime Desk, she stated that the vehicle had been stopped in front of Maharani Police Outpost during the checking operation.

Police have not disclosed the identity of the arrested person, citing the ongoing investigation. Officers are questioning the accused to gather information about the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the ammunition.

Investigators are primarily focusing on determining where the 200 rounds of live cartridges originated and where they were intended to be delivered. Police are also examining the purpose behind transporting such a quantity of ammunition in a passenger-carrying vehicle.

The investigation is expected to examine whether the recovered cartridges were being transported for any unauthorised purpose and whether other individuals were involved in the operation. Police are also looking into the possibility of connections with illegal ammunition transportation networks.

The seizure has drawn attention to security arrangements and vehicle checking operations in the region, particularly ahead of the upcoming municipal polls. However, police have not established any direct connection between the recovered ammunition and the elections.

The Maharani Police Outpost area falls under the jurisdiction of Radhakishorepur police station in Gomati district. The naka checking operation was part of routine vehicle surveillance aimed at identifying suspicious transportation and preventing illegal activities.
