Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma met Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha to discuss the Tiprasa Accord. The meeting focused on people’s rights, time-bound implementation, employment, development and peaceful coexistence between Bengali and Tiprasa communities.
Tipra Motha Party (TMP) founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma met Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha and Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha on Wednesday to discuss the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, expressing hope that the agreement would address people’s rights-related concerns and pave the way for development, employment opportunities and peaceful coexistence across the state.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Milind Ramteke and Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Chief Executive Officer Chaitanya Murthy, IAS, along with other government representatives. The discussions focused on the accord signed in 2024 and the steps required to move its implementation forward.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Debbarma described the discussions as positive and expressed optimism about progress towards fulfilling the agreement’s objectives. He said he hoped the accord would be implemented within a defined timeframe.
“I am very happy and hopeful that we will be able to go ahead with this accord in a time-bound manner,” Debbarma said.
However, he declined to disclose the specific issues discussed during the meeting, stating that the Chief Minister should also communicate the government’s position. He indicated that further details should emerge through an official response from the state government.
The Tiprasa Accord has remained an important issue in discussions concerning the aspirations and rights of people in Tripura’s tribal areas. Debbarma’s latest meeting with the state leadership reflects continued engagement over the agreement and its implementation.
Focus on Rights, Development and Employment
Debbarma said Tripura needed to move towards a new phase of development that would address longstanding grievances while creating better opportunities for people across communities. He emphasised that rights-related concerns should receive attention alongside economic development and employment generation.
According to him, the objective should be to ensure that people who believe their rights have not been adequately addressed receive appropriate consideration without creating difficulties for others.
He expressed hope that the coming period would bring positive changes, including greater employment opportunities, improved prospects for young people and a stronger foundation for social harmony.
Debbarma also stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence between Bengali and Tiprasa communities. He said children from both communities deserved a better future and that the state’s progress depended on maintaining mutual understanding and cooperation.
His remarks highlighted the need to balance the aspirations of indigenous communities with the broader objective of ensuring peace and inclusive development throughout Tripura.
Debbarma Says Meeting Was About People’s Rights
Clarifying the purpose of his discussions with the Chief Minister, Debbarma said he had attended the meeting to raise issues concerning the state and the rights of people living in areas under the TTAADC.
He stressed that his immediate priority was the Tiprasa Accord rather than political negotiations or party interests.
“I am speaking for my state and for the rights of the people of the ADC,” he said.
Debbarma also ruled out discussions on seat-sharing arrangements for upcoming local body elections. He said the meeting had not addressed the electoral issue and that questions about party strategy should be directed to the relevant political leaders.
He reiterated that his focus remained on the accord and the concerns of the people it concerns, rather than negotiations involving the BJP or other political parties.
Further Discussions with Central Government Expected
Debbarma also referred to a proposed second phase of discussions involving the Central Government. Responding to questions from reporters, he indicated that the next phase would be announced within a few days.
However, he did not disclose a detailed schedule, the proposed format of the discussions or the specific issues likely to be considered. His remarks suggested that further engagement with the Centre could form part of the process of advancing the agreement.
He reiterated that Wednesday’s meeting had taken place in a positive atmosphere and encouraged reporters to seek the Chief Minister’s response for further clarification.
Delhi Visit for Medical Treatment
Debbarma said he was scheduled to return to Delhi on October 29 for ongoing medical treatment. He did not disclose details of any additional meetings he might attend during the visit.
