Hollywood star Jason Momoa says acting is not his cup of tea, revealing his preference for rock concerts and filmmaking. The actor also explains why he sometimes declines fan photos to prioritise spending valuable time with his children and family.
Hollywood actor Jason Momoa has revealed that he does not consider himself a conventional actor, admitting that he prefers performing music with his band over spending time on film sets. The Aquaman star said he “fell into” acting rather than actively pursuing it as a career, while expressing greater interest in filmmaking, storytelling and music.
Momoa shared his thoughts during a recent appearance on the At The Bar podcast, where he was asked whether he preferred working on a film set or performing at a rock concert. The actor responded that he would choose a rock concert, adding that he did not really consider himself an actor or a rock star.
Describing himself as a hustler, Momoa explained that although he respects many performers in the acting profession, acting itself may not be his natural calling. He said he enjoys the broader filmmaking process, particularly writing, directing and producing, as well as bringing stories to life.
The actor also indicated that he had never actively sought opportunities to perform in theatre. Instead, his career developed somewhat unexpectedly, eventually leading him to become one of Hollywood’s recognisable stars.
Momoa’s comments highlight his interest in creative work beyond acting. Alongside his film career, he performs bass with his band, Oof Tatata, and has spoken about his enthusiasm for music and live performances.
Despite his reservations about acting, Momoa continues to appreciate the filmmaking industry and the opportunities it offers to develop stories and collaborate with other creative professionals.
During the podcast conversation, the actor also discussed the challenges of being recognised by fans in public, particularly when he is spending time with his partner or children. He acknowledged that people are often excited to meet him and that he understands their enthusiasm, especially when they encounter celebrities they admire.
However, Momoa explained that there are moments when he prefers to keep his attention on his personal life rather than interact with fans or pose for photographs.
The actor said it can be difficult when people approach him while he is reconnecting with someone he has not seen for a long time or spending precious time with his children. He explained that his busy professional commitments mean he does not always get to see his children as often as he would like.
Momoa said he sometimes has to politely decline requests for photographs when the timing is inappropriate. While he recognises that such decisions could make him appear unfriendly, he believes protecting his family time is important.
His remarks reflect the challenges public figures face in balancing their professional visibility with personal relationships and privacy. Although Momoa appreciates the support and excitement of his fans, he wants them to understand that family moments deserve consideration and respect.

While acting has brought him international recognition, Momoa’s latest remarks suggest that his creative interests extend well beyond performing in front of the camera.
