Maharashtra Cyber Cell has summoned rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh for the fourth time, directing him to appear on October 16 over alleged objectionable remarks during a television show. Officials warned that legal action, including a possible Look Out Circular, could follow.
The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has summoned popular rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh for the fourth time, directing him to appear before the investigating officer on October 16 in connection with alleged objectionable remarks made during a television show. The development comes after the singer reportedly failed to appear despite receiving three earlier summonses.
According to a Maharashtra Cyber Cell official, a complaint was lodged against Honey Singh over remarks allegedly made during a television programme. The complaint prompted an investigation into the matter, and the singer was asked to cooperate with the authorities by appearing for questioning.
However, Honey Singh did not appear in response to the previous three summonses. He reportedly informed the authorities that he was unable to attend because he was abroad. The Cyber Cell has now issued another summons, asking him to appear on October 16.
A Cyber Cell official indicated that if the singer fails to appear again, authorities may initiate the process of issuing a Look Out Circular (LOC) against him. Such a measure can be used by law enforcement agencies to alert immigration authorities and help prevent a person from leaving or entering the country, depending on the applicable directions and circumstances.
The controversy follows an incident earlier this year when Honey Singh made remarks during a concert in Delhi that attracted criticism. While addressing the audience, the rapper referred to Delhi’s winter and made comments about sexual activity in a car, adding a message urging people to use condoms and practise safe sex.
The remarks subsequently circulated widely on social media, prompting criticism from several people. Following the backlash, Honey Singh issued a public apology through a video posted on social media and offered an explanation of his intentions.
In his clarification, the singer said the viral video had been edited in a way that offended many people. He maintained that he had not intended to hurt, insult or offend anyone through his comments.
Honey Singh further explained that, shortly before the incident, he had spoken with a leading gynaecologist and sexologist who discussed concerns about the rising number of sexually transmitted infections among young people due to unprotected sex.
According to the singer, the conversation stayed with him. He said that while appearing as a guest at a show hosted by Nanku and Karun, he noticed a large Gen Z audience and attempted to communicate the importance of protection using language he believed would resonate with younger viewers.
Despite his explanation and apology, the matter has continued to draw attention, with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell pursuing its investigation into the complaint.
