Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha reviews preparations for Durga Puja and ‘Mayer Gomon’ 2026, scheduled for October 23, stressing security, coordination, tourism promotion, foreign guests, traffic management and a peaceful, vibrant celebration across Agartala.
With less than a month remaining for Durga Puja, the Tripura government has intensified preparations for the upcoming festive season, including the much-anticipated ‘Mayer Gomon’ 2026 programme in Agartala. A preparatory meeting on Sharad Samman and ‘Mayer Gomon’ was held on Monday, September 21, at Muktadhara Auditorium, where Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reviewed arrangements and called for coordinated efforts to ensure a safe, peaceful and vibrant celebration.
The meeting was organised by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs and brought together senior administrative officials, representatives of Agartala Municipal Corporation, local bodies, clubs and puja committees. Discussions focused on preparations for Durga Puja, Sharad Samman, idol immersion and the ‘Mayer Gomon’ programme.
According to the plans discussed at the meeting, this year’s ‘Mayer Gomon’ programme will be held on October 23. The area in front of MTB Higher Secondary Girls’ School has been designated as the main venue for the programme. The event has gradually become an important cultural attraction in Agartala, with the number of visitors reportedly increasing every year.
Dr. Manik Saha stressed the importance of ensuring adequate security arrangements throughout the Durga Puja period. He directed the concerned departments to complete roadside tree trimming and shifting of electrical wires at the earliest so that the movement of people and vehicles during ‘Mayer Gomon’ can take place without disruption.
The Chief Minister also instructed the police and concerned authorities to ensure easy and uninterrupted movement of ambulances during the festive period. He emphasised that public safety, convenience and effective law-and-order management should remain key priorities during the celebrations.
In addition to ensuring smooth arrangements for the festival, Dr. Saha highlighted the tourism potential of ‘Mayer Gomon’. He suggested inviting foreign guests to witness the event and exploring the possibility of developing special tourism packages around Durga Puja and ‘Mayer Gomon’. He also called for wider publicity and promotion of the programme so that its cultural significance can reach a larger audience.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that collective participation and cooperation among the administration, municipal authorities, puja committees, clubs and citizens would help make this year’s Durga Puja more enjoyable, peaceful and harmonious.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder said the government’s objective was to make the Durga Puja celebrations and ‘Mayer Gomon’ programme successful while meeting public expectations. He underlined the importance of maintaining security and law and order so that people could participate in the festivities without inconvenience.
Majumder also appealed to major puja clubs to participate in the ‘Mayer Gomon’ programme. He said a single-window system had been introduced for granting permissions to puja clubs and that registration fees had been waived. According to the information shared at the meeting, 697 Durga Puja celebrations were recorded in Agartala last year.
Representatives of several puja clubs also raised concerns and made suggestions regarding the conduct of the celebrations. Among the issues discussed was a request to prohibit DJ music during Durga Puja celebrations and idol immersion, reflecting concerns about maintaining a peaceful and orderly festive environment.
Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary Kiran Gine said ‘Mayer Gomon’ was gradually emerging as a reflection of Tripura’s cultural heritage. He noted that the programme has been organised in Agartala since 2022 and stressed the need for collective efforts to make it more attractive to tourists.
Revenue Secretary Milind Ramteke called for special measures to ensure the safety of puja pandals and adequate lighting arrangements. He also stressed the deployment of sufficient volunteers and effective management of the additional waste generated during the festive period.
IGP (Law and Order) Manchak Ipper urged puja organisers to refrain from forced collection of donations and violations of traffic rules. He emphasised the need for organisers and authorities to work together to maintain discipline and ensure smooth movement during the celebrations.
Director of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs Bimbisar Bhattacharya led a detailed discussion on preparations for Sharad Samman and ‘Mayer Gomon’. A documentary on ‘Mayer Gomon’ was also screened during the meeting.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on close coordination among government departments, the municipal corporation, police administration, puja committees and social organisations. The administration has been directed to complete necessary preparations ahead of the festival to ensure that Durga Puja and the October 23 ‘Mayer Gomon’ programme are conducted in a safe, organised and festive atmosphere.
