Union Home Minister Amit Shah greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday, describing his public journey as one of service and dedication. The BJP also launched the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan to mark Modi’s 25 years in public life.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday extended birthday greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting what he described as Modi’s long journey of service, dedication and national commitment. Shah’s message came as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began its month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, marking Modi’s birthday and the completion of 25 years of his public life.

In a post on X, Shah described Modi as a symbol of hard work, sacrifice and foresight. He said Modi’s life had been centred on national service and characterised his political journey as one marked by dedication and resolve. Shah also extended wishes for the Prime Minister’s long life and good health.

Shah further said he hoped that India would continue to make progress under Modi’s leadership and move towards the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. The birthday message was issued on September 17, the day Modi was born in 1950 in Vadnagar, Gujarat.

Narendra Modi became Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, beginning the period that the BJP is now marking as 25 years of public service. He became Prime Minister in May 2014 and is currently serving his third term.

The BJP’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is scheduled to run from September 17 to October 17. BJP president Nitin Nabin announced the campaign earlier this month, saying it would mark 25 years since Modi began his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister. According to the party’s announcement, October 7 will mark the completion of the 25-year milestone.

The month-long programme includes a range of public outreach and service-oriented activities. The campaign is being launched with service initiatives, including blood donation programmes, while other activities are planned across the country during the month. The BJP has also outlined programmes involving youth, public participation, cleanliness initiatives, educational activities and engagement with beneficiaries of government schemes.

A major feature of the opening day’s programme is the Seva Sankalp Bike Yatra linking Vadnagar and Varanasi. The twin journeys are being organised between Modi’s birthplace in Gujarat and his parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Amit Shah is scheduled to flag off the Vadnagar-to-Varanasi journey, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other leaders are participating in the launch of the parallel Varanasi-to-Vadnagar programme.

In Vadnagar, the programme includes religious and public activities before the bike yatra. Reports said the day’s schedule includes a Maha Aarti at Sharmishtha Lake, a padayatra and a cleanliness campaign at the Hatkeshwar Mahadev Temple, alongside preparations for the yatra’s flag-off.

In Varanasi, the parallel yatra is being launched as part of the same campaign. According to reports, Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu are among the leaders expected to participate in the day’s programmes.

The BJP has described the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan as a nationwide campaign intended to highlight Modi’s 25 years in public life and service. The party’s programme includes multiple categories of outreach and public-service activities scheduled throughout the month.

The birthday greetings from Shah and the launch of the campaign therefore coincide with two milestones being observed by the BJP: Modi’s birthday on September 17 and the October 7 anniversary of his assumption of office as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001. The campaign is scheduled to continue until October 17, bringing the month-long programme to a close.
