Tripura West MP Biplab Kumar Deb secures Rs 50,000 from PMNRF for Agartala youth Soham Paul’s critical medical care at Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata. Deb expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the swift financial relief.
Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Tripura West, Biplab Kumar Deb, has facilitated crucial financial aid from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). The fund has approved an assistance grant of Rs 50,000 to support the advanced medical care of Soham Paul, a young resident of Ramnagar in Agartala.
The formal sanction was officially communicated by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) directly to the Director of the Tata Medical Centre in Kolkata through an official memorandum dated September 7, 2026.
The financial grant has been cleared in principle to help alleviate the severe financial burden associated with the patient’s specialized, high-cost therapy. As per standard procedural guidelines established by the central authority, the PMO clarified that the admissible disbursement will be limited to 50 percent of the actual medical expenditure incurred or the sanctioned ceiling of Rs 50,000—whichever amount is lower—subject to institutional verification and fulfillment of prescribed medical guidelines.
Reacting to the development, Biplab Kumar Deb expressed his deep appreciation and sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the prompt approval. Deb emphasized that the central leadership continues to demonstrate immense empathy toward citizens in critical medical distress.
Taking to social media and speaking to the press, Deb stated, “I extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, for sanctioning medical assistance of Rs 50,000 from the PMNRF to Shri Soham Pal.”
Detailing the intervention, the parliamentarian explained that the critical situation was first presented to him by the patient’s family, who were struggling to meet the rising costs of advanced specialized therapy. Recognizing the emergency, Deb immediately gathered the necessary medical documentation and forwarded an expedited appeal to the PMNRF division under the PMO.
“The sanction was approved within a remarkably short period,” Deb noted, adding that this rapid decision reflects the Prime Minister’s sensitive and people-centric governance. He also highlighted that this is not an isolated instance; whenever requests for life-saving interventions have been submitted on behalf of needy patients from Tripura, the Prime Minister has treated them with compassion and granted approvals swiftly.
