According to local health authorities, the dengue cases have been reported in the area since around the middle of August. Following the detection of the cases, officials of the Kathalia Community Health Centre have stepped up monitoring and preventive activities in North Maheshpur and surrounding areas.
Doctors and health workers are conducting door-to-door visits across Maheshpur village as part of efforts to identify suspected cases and prevent further transmission. Health teams are also inspecting households for stagnant water, which can provide suitable breeding grounds for mosquitoes responsible for spreading dengue.
In addition to household inspections, officials are carrying out awareness campaigns to educate residents about dengue symptoms, prevention and the importance of timely medical attention. Necessary medicines and insect-control measures are also being deployed in the affected areas as part of the containment efforts.
The development has caused concern among residents because North Maheshpur is located around 12–13 kilometres from Dhanpur, where dengue cases had been reported several years ago in the vicinity of the primary health centre. At that time, there had been suspicion that the infection might have originated from Bangladesh. However, intensive preventive measures, along with cooperation from local residents and affected individuals, helped bring the situation under control within a short period.
Health officials are now closely monitoring the latest situation in North Maheshpur to prevent the cases from increasing. Door-to-door surveillance is being used to identify people showing possible symptoms and to ensure that residents receive appropriate medical guidance.
Dr Tania Debbarma, a member of the monitoring team, urged residents to remain alert and seek medical attention without delay if they develop symptoms associated with dengue. She particularly advised people experiencing fever accompanied by headache, nausea, vomiting or joint pain to visit a hospital promptly.
She also advised suspected patients to undergo blood tests as recommended by doctors and follow the prescribed treatment. Early medical consultation and proper monitoring, health officials said, are important to reduce the risk of complications associated with dengue.
Authorities have appealed to residents to cooperate with health workers during household inspections and preventive operations. They have also urged people to take steps to prevent water from accumulating around their homes and other areas where mosquitoes can breed.

Health officials stressed that there is no need for panic over the situation, but residents should remain cautious and follow preventive measures. With timely medical care, mosquito-control activities, proper sanitation and public awareness, the spread of dengue can be effectively controlled.
The health department is continuing surveillance in the affected area and is taking necessary steps to assess the situation and prevent further transmission in North Maheshpur and nearby localities.
