Tripura launches app-based cab and auto-rickshaw services at MBB Airport, Agartala and Jogendranagar railway stations, aiming to modernize passenger transport, improve tourist connectivity, strengthen hospitality and create a technology-driven travel experience across the state.
A new chapter in advanced transport system and technology-driven tourism has begun in the state today. Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury today officially launched the App-based online cab and auto-rickshaw service from MBB Airport and inaugurated the newly built tourism information centre and TIC Metaverse service at the airport.
Simultaneously App-based transport service from Agartala and Jogendranagar railway station was also launched virtually. Introduction of this service would visibly ease the connectivity with the airport and railways stations for the passengers and tourists.
Speaking on this occasion, the Tourism Minister said, the use of modern technology at the airport and tourism services is drawing attention of the tourists.
The Minister in his speech also referred to the alleged harassment of passengers by the auto drivers and said that such incidents would not be tolerated and severe actions would be taken.
He appealed to existing prepaid auto-rickshaw operators to join the Uber platform rather than view it as a threat, assuring them that both app-based and prepaid services would operate under regulated rates, giving passengers the freedom to choose.
Chowdhury revealed that the decision followed nearly two years of consultations, stressing that the government could not ignore the evolving needs of passengers and tourists. With 4,500–5,000 passengers using MBB Airport daily, and thousands more at Agartala and Jogendranagar stations, the minister emphasized that improving first impressions for visitors is critical to Tripura’s image.
He said, despite the airport having modern infrastructure, the absence of modern transport system outside it may create a negative image about the state. Keeping that in mind for the convenience of tourists, this App-based cab and auto-rickshaw service has been launched. Passengers will be at an ease to choose between cab or auto-rickshaw service. Considering the interest of common people and keeping abreast of other states’ infrastructure, the transport system in Tripura will also be modernized in a phased manner.
The minister also deliberated on improved hospitality, transportation, accommodation and food facilities in the state. He opined that if a positive image is created in the tourists’ minds they would repeatedly come to visit the state. In that case a positive image of the state will also develop at the national and international level. The TIC Metaverse experience about different tourist spots of Tripura will enrich the knowledge of tourists about the state. At the same time the App-based transport service will definitely boost passenger service and tourism management.

At the programme among others were present tourism and transport secretary U.K. Chakma, director of MBB Airport K.M. Nehra, SP Namit Pathak, director of tourism department Prashant Badal Negi, transport commissioner Subrata Choudhury and other concerned officials. Welcome address was delivered by the transport and tourism secretary UK Chakma and transport commissioner Subrata Choudhury proposed the vote of thanks.
