CPI(M) rules out an electoral tie-up with Congress and confirms an alliance with CPI(ML) under the Left Front for Tripura’s upcoming Village Committee elections, focusing on grassroots issues, tribal rights, development and the concerns of people in hill areas.
With the Village Committee elections approaching, political activity has intensified in Tripura as major parties finalize their electoral strategies and alliance positions. The CPI(M) has ruled out any electoral understanding with the Congress while confirming that it will contest the polls in alliance with the CPI(ML) under the Left Front.
The CPI(M) State Secretary said coordination among Left parties would remain a key priority ahead of the elections. The alliance is expected to focus on strengthening the Left’s presence at the grassroots level and presenting a united political platform during the campaign.
According to the CPI(M) leadership, the Left Front’s election campaign will primarily highlight issues affecting people living in the state’s hill areas. Rights, development, livelihood concerns and everyday problems faced by residents are expected to remain central themes of the campaign.
The CPI(M) leader also made the party’s position on Congress clear, stating that no discussions have taken place regarding a seat-sharing arrangement or an electoral alliance with the grand old party. The statement effectively rules out any Congress-CPI(M) understanding for the upcoming Village Committee polls.
The CPI(M) State Secretary also questioned the Congress’s organizational strength in the hill areas, particularly in tribal regions. He argued that the Congress does not have a sufficiently strong grassroots base in these areas and, therefore, does not form part of the Left Front’s electoral calculations.

The confirmation of the CPI(M)-CPI(ML) alliance comes as parties prepare to intensify their campaigns ahead of the Village Committee elections. The Left Front is expected to seek support by emphasizing local development, community rights and issues directly affecting people in the hill areas.
