Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that India is fast emerging as a global platform for manufacturing, innovation and exports. She urged Canadian investors to tap the country’s growing potential to serve both domestic and international markets. She said, India’s reform-led transformation and strong growth trajectory are creating opportunities for a more resilient and investment-driven India-Canada economic partnership.
Addressing a high-level Business Roundtable in Toronto yesterday, Sitharaman highlighted that reforms, digitalisation, infrastructure investment and targeted policy support were steadily strengthening the environment for long-term investment in the country. She invited Canadian companies and investors to view India not merely as an investment destination, but as a strategic partner and platform for global growth. She encouraged businesses to establish long-term operations and partnerships that can serve both the Indian market and international markets.
The Finance Minister also highlighted opportunities for Canadian companies in financial services, particularly through the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) International Financial Services Centre (GIFT IFSC). With ambition to raise two-way trade to 70 billion dollar annually by 2030, Sitharaman emphasised that the India-Canada economic opportunity extends far beyond trade, encompassing investment, technology, innovation, financial services and long-term global partnerships.
