Violence erupted at Bishramganj RD office after a clash between contractor groups, leaving two contractors and a TSR trooper injured. Two vehicles were vandalised as police and TSR personnel were deployed to control the situation. Political tensions and allegations of rivalry have further heightened concerns in the area.

Tension prevailed at the Bishramganj Rural Development (RD) office on Monday after a power tussle between two groups of contractors escalated into a violent clash, leaving two contractors and a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) trooper injured. Two vehicles were also vandalised during the incident.

The injured contractors were identified as Plaban Saha and Sagar Nag, both residents of Bishalgarh. A TSR jawan, Purnajoy Reang, also sustained injuries while allegedly attempting to bring the situation under control, according to sources.

The incident reportedly took place in the afternoon when the two contractors arrived at the Bishramganj RD office premises. Local sources said they were allegedly attacked following a confrontation, after which their vehicles were vandalised.

As the situation turned tense, Purnajoy Reang reportedly intervened in an attempt to control the violence but was injured in the process. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical treatment, sources said.

Following the clash, the Additional Superintendent of Police, along with other senior police officials, reached the RD office premises. A large number of TSR personnel were deployed in and around the area to prevent further escalation and maintain law and order.

The incident has also triggered political speculation, with different sections offering conflicting accounts of the developments. Some political leaders alleged that the violence was orchestrated by the Tipra Motha Party to assert its influence ahead of the upcoming VC polls. However, other sources claimed that the incident was the result of an internal rift within the ruling party that has increasingly spilled into public spaces.

Bishalgarh and Charilam have witnessed political tensions and power struggles for several years, both within political groups and among ruling allies. Local sources said such disputes have increasingly become a recurring feature of politics in the region.

The latest clash has raised concerns over the possibility of further tensions, even as security personnel remain deployed at the Bishramganj RD office premises. Authorities are maintaining a close watch on the situation to prevent any further violence.
